Look beyond Ericeira center - When people say they "live in the Ericeira area," they might be in Ribamar, Santo Isidoro, Seixal, Carvoeira, or even outside Mafra. All worth checking if you're searching for something more affordable or spacious. Word of mouth works - ask around actively, as many of the best rentals never make it to listing sites.
Location matters less than you think - Ericeira town is small enough that everything is walkable. Stay in the center near Praça da República for restaurants and nightlife, or slightly north toward Ribeira d'Ilhas for quieter, more surf-focused stays.
