01 - Why a Surf Camp

More Than Just Lessons

A surf school gives you a 2-hour lesson. A surf camp gives you a week of immersion - daily sessions matched to conditions, video analysis, like-minded people to surf with, and local knowledge you can't get from a day trip. In Ericeira, that means surfing different breaks every day as the swell and wind shift along the coast.

Most camps include accommodation, breakfast, equipment, and 2-3 hours of coached surfing per day. Some add yoga, fitness, and cultural activities. Prices range from €400-900 per week depending on the level of accommodation and coaching.

03 - What to Know

Before You Book

Timing

When to Come

June-September for beginners: warmer water, smaller waves, more daylight. October-November for intermediates: bigger swells, fewer crowds, still pleasant weather. Avoid August if you want uncrowded breaks - half of Lisbon is in Ericeira.

Fitness

How Fit Do I Need to Be

You don't need to be an athlete, but surfing is physically demanding. Paddling uses muscles you didn't know you had. Basic swimming ability is required. If you can swim 200m comfortably, you're fine for beginner sessions.

Solo Travel

Coming Alone

Most surf camp guests arrive solo. That's the whole point - you join a ready-made group of like-minded people. By day two, you'll have surf buddies for the rest of the week. Camps are designed for exactly this.
