Ericeira is a fishing village at heart, and the food reflects that. Seafood is king.
Grilled fish: The quintessential Ericeira meal. Robalo (sea bass), dourada (sea bream), and sardines grilled over charcoal, served with boiled potatoes and salad. Simple, perfect, and cheap. Many restaurants source directly from the local fishing boats.
Percebes (goose barnacles): A delicacy harvested from the rocks along the coast. Expensive (€30–50/plate) because collecting them is dangerous - fishermen pry them off wave-battered cliffs. Served boiled with lemon. An acquired taste, but locals consider them the best thing from the sea.
Arroz de marisco: A rich, tomato-based seafood rice stew loaded with clams, shrimp, crab, and whatever the day's catch brings. Meant to be shared.
Pastéis de nata: Portugal's famous custard tarts. Available at nearly every bakery in town. Best eaten warm.
Beyond traditional: Ericeira's international community has brought excellent brunch spots, specialty coffee, poke bowls, and vegan options. Check our restaurants and cafés guides for specific recommendations.
