Ericeira is an excellent destination for families. The town is safe, walkable, and offers plenty for kids of all ages.
Beaches: Foz do Lizandro is the best family beach - wide, sandy, with gentle waves and lifeguards in summer. Praia dos Pescadores (the town beach) is small but sheltered and right in the center. São Sebastião has a tidal pool that's perfect for toddlers.
Surf for kids: Most surf schools offer lessons for children from age 5 and up. Group kids' lessons run €35–45 and are a highlight of any family trip. The instructors are patient and experienced with young learners.
Activities: Beyond the beach, families enjoy cliff walks along the coastline, rock pooling at low tide, visiting Mafra Palace (15 minutes away), and the Dinosaur Park near Lourinhã (30 minutes). The weekly farmers' market is fun for browsing local produce and crafts.
Practical notes: There's a health center in town and a pharmacy on the main square. Supermarkets stock all the baby and kid essentials you'd need. Most restaurants are child-friendly - the Portuguese love kids. High chairs are standard.
Accommodation: Look for family apartments or villas in the Foz do Lizandro area for beach access, or in the town center for convenience. Several hotels offer family rooms.
