Camões: a poet-philosopher aware of his time
Kenneth David Jackson, professor emeritus at Yale University and honorary member of the ICEA, delivered a lecture on Luís de Camões at the institute. He compared the Portuguese poet to Shakespeare, noting that both examined human destiny and the events of their era.
Jackson described Camões as a modern thinker who spent years in the East yet remained a European poet of the Renaissance. The lecture opened and closed with poetry recitals by ICEA Vice-President Anabela Almeida.
