Search continues for missing Ericeira surfer in the Algarve
Search operations continue for Arran Strong, the 28-year-old British surfer who disappeared on Monday off Arrifana while crossing the Portuguese coast by stand-up paddle. Strong, who lived in Ericeira since childhood and ranked sixth in the Liga MEO Surf, vanished about one mile offshore after stopping with José Maria Pyrrait to rest and take photos.
The National Maritime Authority, Sagres lifeboat crew, Lagos Maritime Police, SeaWatch and a Portuguese Air Force aircraft are taking part in the search. A memorial gathering is planned for Saturday at 12:00 in Ribeira d’Ilhas to honour the Ericeira Surf Clube athlete.
