15 years of cooperation through surfing. Ericeira hosts annual World Surf Cities Network meeting
Ericeira hosted the annual World Surf Cities Network meeting this week to mark 15 years of international cooperation. The event opened with a commemorative exhibition and the network’s General Assembly, followed by the conference “Where Waves Create Value: Surf, Innovation and Sustainable Territorial Development” at Parque de Santa Marta. Five thematic panels brought together mayors and professionals from Portugal, France, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Mexico and Costa Rica.
The programme closed at Praia de Ribeira d’Ilhas with the unveiling of a 15-year commemorative plaque, the official start of the Olas Pro Tour youth contest featuring 85 young athletes, and the recognition of Cabo Blanco, Peru, as the world’s first carbon-neutral surf destination. A traditional Peruvian “caballito de totora” demonstration also took place, linking to an exhibition at Centro de Alto Rendimento in Viana do Castelo.
