Alice Vieira wrote in Jornal de Mafra about an overheard conversation at Praia do Sul in Ericeira. A boy asked his father who Fernão Lopes was after seeing a TV series announcement. The father replied that Portugal had only kings until 25 April 1974, then added that the country also had Spanish kings whom everyone liked. The exchange left other patrons at the esplanada speechless.
Vieira, a regular contributor to Audácia and Jornal de Mafra, is known for her poetry and as one of Portugal’s leading writers of children’s and young-adult literature.
