Image of the day | Ericeira recalls the departure of the Royal Family into exile
A tile panel on Ericeira’s seafront marks the spot where Portugal’s royal family boarded a ship on 5 October 1910 and sailed into exile after the Republican Revolution. The azulejo plaque, framed by a colourful decorative border, records the moment the monarchy ended and the Republic began.
The panel also honours the local population’s role in the departure, keeping the national event alive in the village’s memory.
