Ribeira d’Ilhas bids farewell to Arran Strong with tribute at sea [video]

Dozens of surfers, friends and residents gathered at Ribeira d’Ilhas on Saturday at midday to honour Arran Strong, the 28-year-old athlete who went missing off Arrifana during a stand-up paddle crossing.

The ceremony began on the sand with family and friends sharing memories of the young athlete, known for his dedication to surfing, his resilience in the face of health challenges and his generous ties to the local community. A traditional paddle-out followed, with participants forming a circle in the water and raising their boards in tribute.
