The night Ericeira takes Senhora da Boa Viagem to the sea
The annual Procissão ao Mar in honour of Nossa Senhora da Boa Viagem will take place tomorrow, 15 August, weather and sea conditions permitting.
The procession begins at the chapel beside Praia dos Pescadores and follows the narrow streets of the historic centre to the shoreline. If conditions allow, the image of the saint is placed on a boat and taken out to sea, a symbolic gesture of protection for those who work on the water.
