01 - About

Foz do Lizandro

Foz do Lizandro is where the Lizandro river meets the Atlantic, creating a wide, sandy beach that's the most versatile in the Ericeira area. It's the go-to for families, the default for surf schools, and the place everyone goes for sunset.

The beach is expansive - even in peak summer, you can usually find space. The river mouth creates a natural lagoon that's perfect for small kids - shallow, warm, and sheltered from waves. Parents can relax while kids splash safely.

Surf: Foz is Ericeira's premier beginner surf spot. The sandy bottom means no reef risks, and the waves are generally mellow and forgiving. Multiple surf schools operate here daily, lined up along the beach with students learning to pop up in the whitewash. Intermediate longboarders also love this break - the waves are soft and long, perfect for noseriding and relaxed cruising.

Sunset: West-facing and unobstructed, Foz do Lizandro has arguably the best sunset in the Ericeira area. The river reflects the colors, the cliffs frame the scene, and on a clear evening it's genuinely spectacular. Bring a bottle of wine and a blanket.

There's a beach bar/restaurant at the north end serving drinks and simple food. Parking along the road above the beach, though it fills up on summer weekends. Lifeguards on duty June-September.

Getting there: About 2km south of the town center. Walkable (25 min) or a quick drive/bike ride. Several surf camps are based in this area.
