Praia do Norte is exactly what the name suggests - the beach on the northern side of Ericeira. It's less visited by tourists than the town beaches, which is precisely its appeal.
The beach is sandy and reasonably wide, backed by low cliffs. On a summer day when Praia dos Pescadores is packed shoulder-to-shoulder, Praia do Norte will have plenty of space. The trade-off is slightly more exposed conditions - it catches more wind and swell than the sheltered town beaches.
Swimming is possible but conditions vary more than the town beaches. Check for currents, especially on bigger swell days. No lifeguards outside peak summer.
The beach is popular with local surfers - there are reef breaks on both ends that can produce good waves on the right swell. Not as famous as Coxos or Ribeira d'Ilhas, but less crowded and still quality.
Access is via a path from the residential area above. Limited parking. No beach facilities - bring water and snacks. The nearest restaurants are a 10-minute walk back toward the center.
Praia do Norte suits people who want a beach day without the scene - just sand, ocean, and space.
Best for: Locals, space-seekers, surfers wanting uncrowded breaks
