The dog from Rua Luís de Camões 13 that Ericeira residents have been reporting for around two years is no longer staying near its house. Neighbours say it is now regularly seen walking through the wider neighbourhood on its own, with no leash and no one with it, sometimes a long way from home.

A resident shared the photo above on Facebook, showing the dog walking alone along a pavement, well away from the house.

According to residents, its behaviour has not changed. The dog still barks at people it passes, and several say it has gone after random pedestrians in the street. It has attacked people before: in August, residents filmed it chasing a couple walking past the property at night, and a similar incident with another resident was reported the year before.

What worries neighbours now is that the problem is no longer limited to one street. People walking to the beach, children and older residents can come across the dog anywhere in the area, without any warning.

Residents say the owner has done nothing to keep the dog inside or on a leash. They also say that, despite repeated complaints to the GNR, the police and SEPNA, the GNR's animal protection service, no one has come to check on the dog or enforce the rules on dogs in public places.

Neighbours describe it as a very dangerous situation, and fear it will take someone getting seriously hurt before anything is done. They are again asking the GNR and Mafra Town Council to act, both for the safety of people in the street and for the welfare of the dog itself.

If you see the dog loose and behaving aggressively, residents recommend keeping your distance and reporting it to the GNR, or calling 112 in an emergency.
