Protection of people and homes drives progress on cliff works at Praia do Algodio
Stabilisation works are underway on the cliff slope at Praia do Algodio to secure access routes and infrastructure at the top. A technical visit took place today to monitor progress, attended by Minister for Environment and Energy Maria da Graça Carvalho and President of the Portuguese Environment Agency José Pimenta Machado.
The project, with an eligible investment of around 1.5 million euros, is a partnership between the Portuguese Environment Agency, Município de Mafra and Capitania do Porto de Cascais, funded by Programa Sustentável 2030. It aims to halt coastal erosion, protect residents, buildings and natural heritage, and build climate-resilient infrastructure while respecting the coastal landscape.
